One of the most difficult aspects of being homebound (due to illness) is not being able to hike in the forest. Both my husband and I are avid outdoor adventurers, as well as nature and animal lovers. Hiking, backpacking, kayaking, nature and wildlife photography (to name a few) are huge passions of ours. Yet this intense healing journey I am on prevents me from being in the wild spaces that fuels and fills my spirit.
To compensate for not being able to be in the wild outdoors, I sit in my backyard. Fortunately, I am blessed to have a beautiful yard to sit in complete with pear, persimmon and fig trees. We also have a grape vine, wisteria, roses, bamboo and a pond. To our delight frogs, gorgeous dragonflies, butterflies, a plethora of birds, opossums, raccoons, squirrels, and the like, regularly visit our yard. So I can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna that is here. Still, I miss the forest. So, I found a way to bring the forest to me while I am home healing.

Forest Aromatherapy
3 drops Cedarwood essential oil
3 drops Spruce essential oil
3 drops Fir essential oil
Put the drops of essential oil into your favorite diffuser and breathe in the forest air!
The smell transports me to my most favorite places on the planet. I feel peaceful. I feel relaxed. I feel almost as good as being there in person, and almost is a far better cry from being completely disconnected from the places and spaces I love the most.
Every bit of hard work I am doing here, at the office of healing, is worth it if, in the end, I will be healthy, fit and back on the trail!
If you can’t be in the places and spaces that fills and fuels your spirit, try transporting yourself there via your senses!

I get my essential oils here!
I got my diffuser (which is quiet and the best I’ve ever used) at Living Libations, but unfortunately they no longer sell it there. You can, however, get it here.

What a great idea Treesa. I know you will be back on the trail soon but in the mean time, it sounds like you have a great way to bring the scents of it indoors, plus I love the sound of your back yard.

Thank you, Jodi.
Your yard sounds lovely! Looking into that diffuser now!
Having an ultrasonic nebulizer diffuser, in addition to high quality oils, makes all the difference in my experience. Nadine Artemis sells a really expensive diffuser now. I bet the quality is excellent though. I like the one I have. You only need a few drops to smell heaven on earth!
I bet the smell is divine. I love this idea. I am seeing you well, strong and on the trail. I look forward to seeing the pictures of you there soon.
Thank you. I look forward to sharing those pictures too. The things I will be able to share on My Kitchen Apothecary when I can get back into the forest and foraging…what fun that will be!
Love how you think of ways to stay connected. I also can’t wait to see those pictures!
I will share them, I promise.
My wife is a forest goddess too. I’ll have to put some of this on for her. I’m sure she’d love it after her long days in the office. Thx
She’ll love it I’m sure!
Great idea. Will try! <3
Let us know if you try any new combinations!
